Wood moisture detector FMW-B

moisture measurement without causing damage or perforations in the material

The FMW-B wood moisture detector determines moisture using the capacitive method. In this absolute wood moisture detector, an electromagnetic field quickly determines the wood's capacitance. The amount of moisture contained in the wood is determined internally by the gross density.

This wood moisture detector has three main advantages:

- Measures moisture content without damaging the material by placing it on the wood.

- Humidity measurement results are displayed quickly.

- No drying test required due to the high precision of the values.

humidity (absolute humidity is measured / the wood moisture detector meets

with all European standards and regulations according to EN 13183-1, EN 13183-2, EN 13556)

This wood moisture detector impresses with its simple operation and robustness. It is an indispensable aid for wood processing, wood purchasing, and for any professional in the sector related to wood as a raw material. You will also be convinced by the wide variety of woods to measure (the densities are found in the device).

Safe wood moisture measurement in just 3 steps:

  1. Connection and zeroing

  2. Wood thickness adjustment (selection from memory)

  3. Measure and read humidity

Ajustes:

  • MAX value, memory or Scan mode

  • Introduction of the specific weight of wood from 250 ... 1100 kg/m3 in intervals of 10 kg

  • Relative values for constant material.

Funcionalidad

The wood moisture detector FMW-B is a microprocessor-controlled device for quickly determining the moisture content of wood and building materials. The FMW measures moisture content by holding the sensor located on the upper front of the device for half a second over the corresponding material to be measured. It can also measure through papers or paints.

By entering the specific weight (gross density) of any type of wood into the moisture detector, the absolute moisture content of all types of wood can be determined with extraordinary precision. The FMW makes it possible to measure different types of wood (see the table below) with a weight of 250 to 1100 kg/m3

As the measuring device determines the moisture of the material simply by contact and uses a high-frequency technique for this purpose, moisture measurements can be made without damaging the surface. Therefore, it is especially used for finished products or for quick on-site checks.

Place the wood moisture detector on the wood. The radiation penetrates the wood to a depth of 25 mm and determines the absolute moisture.

The characteristic curves of the gross densities of woods are stored in the device and can be selected very easily. This ensures that the moisture is determined specifically for a certain type of wood with great accuracy.

Characteristic curves of wood and basic indications for measurement

Below you can see an excerpt of the characteristic curves in the alphabetical list we present with the most important woods (stored in the wood moisture detector). We can also send you a more complete list of all types of wood.

Softwood

- Canadian spruce (east, west)

- Agathis (pesada, ligera)

- Alcere

- Larch (European, Japanese, Russian)

- Larch (American, Eastern, Western)

- Cedro rojo

Attention: All characteristic curves for the types of wood in this column and the adjacent one for coniferous wood and hardwood are stored in the wood moisture detector and can be retrieved by entering the corresponding gross densities. With the shipment, you will also receive a table with all materials and woods.

Please also note that:

When measuring wood moisture, the measurement result is more accurate the smoother the wood surface is. The measurement value is somewhat higher when measured over chips or knots. Conversely, if measured over breaks, the moisture value is somewhat lower than the actual moisture value (absolute moisture).

In both cases, further measurements should be made in nearby areas with the wood moisture detector.

Measurement accuracy:

Wood has a non-homogeneous composition. Therefore, fluctuations in gross density can occur when testing with the same type of wood. Multiple moisture measurements should be taken at the same location and the measurement result will be the average value calculated by the device.

Wood surface:

On woods with a very rough surface, the wood moisture detector shows a somewhat lower result.

Fiber direction:

Measuring in the direction of the fiber or against it does not affect the measurement result at all. The wood moisture detector shows the same moisture.

Measurement depth:

The measurement depth is 25 mm. In the case of thin woods (e.g. < 1 cm thick), it should be noted that the measurement is made through the wood (the material above the wood will also be partially measured). Therefore, it should be kept free during measurement.

Measurement surface:

During measurement with the wood moisture detector, the total measurement surface must be on the wood. This way, the measurement result is not falsified.

Construction materials

For construction materials, there is the possibility to enter "0". This is provided in the device for construction materials in general. For this model, there is only one unit characteristic curve (average characteristic curve). This way, you can easily determine the damp areas of walls, floors, etc. This allows for a relative measurement of damp or weak areas.
