The PCE-RT 11 roughness meter is a portable device for determining, with a single device, the roughness depth of Ra, Rz, Rq, and Rt. The small PCE-RT 11 roughness meter has been specially designed for quick roughness measurement. Roughness is a term from surface physics that defines the unevenness of a surface. The roughness meter operates according to the principle of the piezoelectric micro-probe, like high-precision laboratory instruments. The features of this device are easy handling and high repeatability precision. The piezoelectric micro-probe of the roughness meter examines the surface and immediately displays the corresponding Ra, Rz, Rq, or Rt value for the preselected cut-off length.

Rz = average roughness depth

The average roughness depth is the arithmetic mean of the largest consecutive singular depths over the measurement length.



Ra = average roughness value

Ra is the commonly accepted value and roughness parameter used internationally. It is the arithmetic mean of the absolute values of the distances of the roughness profile from the midpoint of the measurement length. The measured numerical value is always less than the Rz value obtained with the same roughness profile.



Rt = maximum depth of roughness

The maximum roughness Rt is the distance between the highest point and the lowest point of the measurement section.



Rq = root mean square roughness value

Rq is the root mean square value of all values ordered in the measurement section l. Rq means RMS (Root Mean Square).
